Join the SPIRIT OF STILWELL.  Please review the following and see if you have an interest in one of our leadership committees in 2021. If any of the following are of interest, please contact me (Ken Klingensmith, President (volunteer) for the Stilwell Community Organization (ken@stilwellcommunity.org).

Please know that our structure is that committee meetings occur as needed to accomplish objectives of the committee.  We have a busy year ahead of us and I welcome any support you can offer in helping us achieve our goals for the upcoming year.

Stilwell Community Park Development Committee

I WILL HELP!

What a great year!  In collaboration with Johnson County Parks and Recreation Department Stilwell now has 2 parks!   The recent investment of nearly $1 million dollars allowed for improvements to the Stilwell Community Park.  Did you know there is a third park planned and ready to go? (183rd and Mission).    We need help working with JCPRD, providing support, monitor the timeline and work on a history trail walk we want to incorproate into the park.
Stilwell Commerce Connection

I WILL HELP!

The Stilwell community (66085/66013) has 247 businesses.  We are always looking for ways to assemble a business directory, business to business relationship development and helping ensure everyone knows the services and business locally available.  What a task to organize that many businesses in our community but we will get it done and if you can help, that's great!  If you can help us out, please let us know!
Communications Committee - NOTIFY JOCO

I WILL HELP!

Staying in connection with everyone in the community of nearly 5,000 is not an easy task.  A few years ago we joined forces with NOTIFY JOCO to have Aubry Township and Stilwell listed for communications (both non-emergency and emergency).  We need to get the word out, coordinate with the chruches for congregationasl support, work with businesss and get residents signed up.   This one single form of communication will replace other platforms.
Johnson County Kansas Heritage Foundation

I WILL HELP!
Stilwell Community Organization is an affiliate member of the Johnson County Kansas Heritage Foundation.  JCKHF is made up of 17 historical society, trails and organizations in Johnson County focused on preservation of history in the county.  We need volunteers interested in the history of Stilwell and Aubry Township to help us represent the southeast unincorporated area of the county as a member of the committee.   You would attend monthly meetings, serve on the Ambassador and Endowement committee, and help preserve the history of Stilwell in support of JCKHF.
Parade Committee

I WILL HELP!

The heart and spirit of Stilwell shines the 4th of every year! The first meeting for the 2021 parade committee will commence in the January 2021 with meetings in April, permits in May, parade registration handling in May and June, secure Grand Marshal, Junior Grand Marshal, solict volunteers for parade line up, get the judges, tropies ordered and promotion of the event.  Coordiante and meet with Sheriff and Fire on safety and event day schedule; staging; and key stakeholders.
Fireworks Committee

I WILL HELP!

It doesn’t get much better than the fireworks display in Stilwell and it shows every year with the crowds at KCPL, along 199th and Metcalf!  Solicit volunteers to help with parking; permits for road closures; permits for fireworks; contact and contract the fireworks vendor; get committment from food trucks; kids games often done by Church Youth groups; secure bands (New in 2021); technology; sound systems; coordiante with local business; and help put together a safe family community gathering!
Community Events

I WILL HELP!

The community events (Breakfast with Santa; Easter Egg Hunt; Trunk or Treat; Community Garage Sale) are co-hosted with one of the local church.  We need to secure annual committement of chruch to co-host each year; coordinate efforts to operate the event; assist and support church with communications and awareness; coordinate planning and attend at least one meeting per event.
